Arizona has a rich history dating back thousands of years to indigenous civilizations, such as the Hohokam and the Pueblo peoples. The area was claimed by Spain in the 16th century, and later became part of Mexico after independence from Spain. In 1848, following the Mexican-American War, Arizona became part of the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

In the late 19th century, Arizona became a U.S. territory and played a key role in the American Civil War as a supply route for the Union army. Arizona became the 48th state of the United States on February 14, 1912.

Throughout the 20th century, Arizona experienced significant growth and development, particularly in the areas of tourism, technology, and aerospace. Today, Arizona is known for its diverse landscapes, including the Grand Canyon, as well as its rapidly growing cities, such as Phoenix and Tucson.

The motto of Arizona is: "Ditat Deus" which means "God enriches."

The state bird of Arizona is the Cactus Wren.
